Somewhere along the way, breakfast changed.
When I was growing up way back in the eighties, porridge was cooked on the stove, toast was toast, and breakfast was actually a meal. Now we’re all busy, breakfast is often eaten on the run, comes out of a packet, or doesn’t happen at all.
I’m Jacinta, the founder of Yeppoonie Smoothie, and I’m also a mum who has spent a lot of time thinking about food and what we actually eat every day. I think about it because I run Yeppoonie Smoothie, not because I’m food obsessed!

Yeppoonie really started because of breakfast.
Good Morning was the first
Good Morning was the very first blend I made. I wanted something easy for mornings when there wasn’t time to cook a proper breakfast, but I still wanted real food. I had tried other shake blends from the supermarket and I’d known for years that many of them weren’t particularly healthy.
I didn’t want to start my day with a dose of fillers, colours and flavours added to whey.
So I started putting together ingredients including flaxseed, almond, plant protein, green banana resistant starch and sweet potato. Nothing particularly fashionable or miraculous, just good ingredients that made sense to me and I found them after extensive research.
That became Good Morning, and eventually Good Morning became Yeppoonie Smoothie, soon joined by Good Afternoon and Good Evening blends.
We now have blends for different times and to add variety: Sunshine, Post Work-Out, East Trinity Cocoa and Study & Focus.
They’ve all come about for slightly different reasons, but the thinking behind them is much the same as it was with that first bag of Good Morning.
Make eating well a bit easier.
Lately I’ve been thinking about breakfast again
Not just what we eat, but how much it has changed.
Why did cereal become breakfast?
When did protein become the thing everyone talks about?
What happened to fibre?
Why did we stop cooking porridge?
And how did we get to the point where there are entire supermarket aisles full of things telling us they’re healthy?
There are also some really strange and interesting stories behind everyday foods that most of us never think about.
I’m going to keep digging.
I’ll be sharing things I find interesting about breakfast, food, ingredients and how the way we eat has changed. Some will be useful, some will be nostalgic and some will probably just be odd.
An Aussie Mum on a Mission to Bring Back Breakfast
I’m not suggesting we all go back to the 1970s or get up early to cook porridge on the stove every morning.
I just think breakfast is worth thinking about again.
It doesn’t need to be perfect, complicated or come with a long list of promises.
Sometimes it just needs to be good food that works with real life.
And that’s pretty much where Yeppoonie started.
